JibJab’s Annual “Year in Review” for 2009 was released a couple of days ago.
I always love these. Though this one isn’t my favorite one they’ve done (it’s kind of awkward…), Kayne’s appearance did make it exponentially better.
The old ones are hilarious. 2007 is my favorite.

Where I Come From...
It all started at our family Christmas party when my cousin Linda said to my Grandma Betty, “Hey, remember when you hung all those spoons from your face? How many was it?”
Challenge extended.
Grandma Betty: “Hold on!” At this point she leaves the room and reappears with a box of her finest silver spoons.
Challenge accepted.
Attempt one by my grandmother:
My uncle...
Wine and a Movie - West Virginia Style
I was struggling with how to appropriately tackle my regular Wine and Movie Monday blog post while I was in West Virginia, surrounded by family. Thanks to the Embassy Suites free happy hour service (which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 nightly and serves wine), it was actually pretty easy.
When I tried to pick a movie, my options were limited to what was on cable, but one jumped out a me right...
Even My West Virginia Friends Are Cool
I met one of my best friends, Amanda, when we were very young.
My grandparents (my step mom’s parents) live in West Virginia, so we come up to visit about twice a year and have since I was about 2 or 3 years old. That’s where I am right now. In Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.
Anyway:
My grandma’s house backed up to an alley and across that alley was this nice little family that...
I'm an idiot.
In addition to being very competitive, incredibly sarcastic, and the million other things I’ve told you, dear reader, about myself on this blog, you should also know that I’m kind of an idiot. Or, at least, I was on Christmas Eve.
At work, one of my regular tasks is closing out projects, which involves making sure that everything necessary has been included with the project before...
Merry Christmas! Sincerely, Amelia Earhart.
Following is a photo of what one member of my family who requested to remain anonymous *ahem. MOM.* wanted to wear for Christmas.
I told her no.
(In all fairness, the hat was added for comedic value… But the beige corduroy suit was legit.)
Maybe the title to this post should have been “Big Pimpin, Spendin G’s” or something. But then that would have meant that my...
The Tramp and The Slut Do Christmas
When I walked into my aunt Peggy’s house tonight, I said my hellos and was directed by another aunt to the wine table. Here I had my selection of wines and wine glasses. I blindly chose a glass, selected my wine and poured myself a glass.
As I set my glass down on the counter, surrounded by my aunts, uncles and cousins, I made sure to take note of where I set my glass to ensure I...
Felony In Progress
When my friend Terri left work yesterday, she asked Carlton and I what on Earth we were going to do without her since she was taking the next two days off work. It was going to be difficult, but we were going to have to manage.
Carlton quickly came up with a list of four things he wanted to do:
1. Marissa buys Carlton lunch.
2. Marissa buys Carlton things from Best Buy.
3. Marissa gives...
Game Night
I’m a very competitive person. Always have been. And I LOVE game nights. I’m pretty cutthroat when it comes to board games.
My friend Emily (whom I rarely get to see since she moved to Tulsa) and her fiance Foster came to Kansas City for the holidays. They spent this afternoon shopping around and just so happened to purchase a new board game for us to play.
It was a game with 100+...
Wine and a Movie - Thirteen
Guess what?! It’s the week of Christmas! That made my movie selection this week really easy. One of my favorite Christmas movies ever: “A Christmas Story.”
Yes, come Christmas Eve, I will inevitably watch this movie 18 times, over and over again… Every year, my family turns on TBS, which always airs “A Christmas Story” back to back for 24 hours, and we gather...
Hurricane + Hair = Humor.
Amy, Luke (Amy’s boyfriend) and I went to the mall to do some holiday shopping over the weekend. Now, I’m a shopper. Ask anyone. They’ll say yes and then they’ll laugh at you for asking. But, I have quite the aversion to all things department store. They really just stress me out. Too many people. And unfortunately, the Columbia mall is made up primarily of department...
One year gone and still going strong.
I came back to Columbia to see my friend Amy graduate from the University of Missouri (where I went) College of Engineering (where I definitely did NOT go). See, Amy’s really freakin’ smart. No, literally, you can SEE it:
I sat in the crowd like any proud friend, excited to watch Amy cross the stage. First, a music major came out on stage to sing the National Anthem. The crowd rose,...
My roommate is really cool
My roommate Sunny was headed to a friend’s birthday in Manhattan, Ks. For whatever inside joke related reason, Sunny made him a kitty cat cake.
It’s pretty sweet.
Also, in addition to cultivating culinary masterpieces like kitty cat cakes, he also does my laundry.
Yeah, my roommate is awesome.

Facebook thinks I'm angry baby.
Facebook has become pretty silly lately. They’ve been making some odd changes, like telling me my friends have no friends so I should be nicer to them, or suggesting that I, too, add a billy goat to my non-existent farmville farm.
Odd…
Also, I recently discovered that you could “like” your own status. I’ve been “like”-ing everything I do, because, well,...
Wine and a Movie - {12}
Today’s wine selection was pretty easy for me. Each of my co-workers spent $10 on a white elephant gift to trade at our Account Service holiday party lunch thing. There were 8 girls participating, each purchasing things like photo albums, wine bottles, lotions, etc.
My purchase?
I spent my $10 on toys.
Moon Sand. A Slinky. Balloons. Instant boats.
(Instant boats are the little pill...
'Tis the season of giving (and drawing)
My step-dad Greg is a big Harley guy. I suppose this makes me a Harley girl by proxy. Hell, I’d be a Harley girl anyway. They’re cool. And there’s just no denying it.
Greg owns a 100th Anniversary Edition 2003 Road King. It’s beautiful.
Because I’m all growed up now and livin’ in the big city (and by “big city,” I am, in fact, referring to...

Currently, my family resides at number 37 [insert street name here] Drive. Years ago, we lived at number 36 [same street name] Drive.
That’s right.
We moved across the street.
One of the many joys of living across from your old house is seeing what the new inhabitants decide to do with what you left them. It’s interesting. Especially when it comes to holiday decorations.

Netflix can read your mind.
Apparently Netflix thinks it has me pegged. I’m not ashamed. Not even a little bit.
Other delightfully perfect suggestions following this category:
Sadly, I’ve seen all of the following:
And, finally, the most fitting:
The Classics.
Netflix is good. Not all-encompassing, by any means—it left out the action flicks and the cult classics—but it’s definitely...

The woman is hilarious. Her love of Michael Scott rivals mine. And she has the best punctuation ever. You can hear it. It’s a skill level that I can only hope to one day achieve.
Amazing.
I want to be her friend.
Stache the Halls →
What a fun new toy! Sent to me by my friend Terri, this is one of the coolest things ever.
My apologies to all future friends who receive a creepy photo entitled “Marissa with Stache.jpg”. Or maybe it will be “Manrissa.jpg”. I’m undecided. Regardless, I’m sure a great number of you will be included in the population of recipients.
And hey, who knows, maybe if...
Wine and a Movie - 11
Dear Blog Reader,
I think I broke the rules of Wine and Movie Monday.
“BUT HOW?!” you may ask. Well, I watched TV instead. I know, I know. Major violation.
The wine was already selected, so all I had to do was pick the movie. Easy, right?
False.
I thought long and hard about which movie I wanted to watch and wasn’t satisfied with any of my choices. Drama? Eh. Comedy? Sure,...
What a view!
My aunt and uncle came into Kansas City this weekend for my cousin Nina’s gymnastics competition.
They were staying at the Marriott Country Club Plaza Hotel. This just so happens to be the only hotel I’ve ever stayed at in Kansas City before this evening, which I think is a little weird. I came here my sophomore or junior year for a fraternity formal. Of all places to pick, she picked...
Slow Ride. Take it easy.
Last night, we (friends from work and myself) made plans to go to lunch today. Regardless of the dining location selection, it was sure to be a blast. But where to go? It didn’t take many suggestions before we had a winner.
Noodles from Noodles? Nope.
Mexican from next door? Yep. Sold.
Like I said. Not too difficult. And Kelly was really excited about the queso.
I headed home, off to...
Love this!
